Beigang Chao-Tian Temple
The Chaotian or Chaotien Temple, officially the Chao-Tian Temple, is a temple to the Chinese sea-goddess Mazu in Beigang Township, Yunlin County in Taiwan. In honor of the spiritual division from the Meizhou Ancestral Temple and changed its name to Chaotian Temple. It has been founded during the Qing Kangxi dinasty in 1694. Because of the Mazu miracles, the Chaotien Temple in Yunlin has become the country's head temple of more than 300 Mazu Temples of the total temples. The Chaotien Temple became one of the most important temples in Taiwan and is known for its extravagant temple architecture.
The Beigang Chaotien Temple is in full fire bloom all the year round. The most lively secondary festival of the year is the Lantern Festival on the 15th of the Lunar New Year and The Mazu's birthday on March 23rd.
